Male Pattern Baldness

Male Pattern Baldness ( MPB )

This is a common term used for the natural hair loss suffered by a large majority of men throughout the world. It is fully treatable and can be made totally invisible to the eye using our advanced Scalp Micro Pigmentation treatments and processes. It is inevitable that most men will suffer from MPB at one time or another during the course of their life.

MPB can be found in a variety of forms – from a slightly receding hairline to complete loss of hair over the entire scalp and head. Not all hair loss is or can be attributed to a medical condition. Other forms of male hair loss like alopecia, telogen effluvium, anagen effluvium and physical trauma can also be a factor – these are not considered to be forms of MPB, it is only baldness through natural processes and elements which is due to genetics.

The Causes

Hair grows from the hair follicles on the scalp and head, these follicles sit below the skin’s surface. One single strand of hair will grow from a single follicle and usually lasts for around three years before falling out to be replaced by a new hair growing from the same follicle – this natural order of growth is known as the hair cycle process. Now that we understand the basis of how hair grows, let’s take a look at the causes which we believe stops and affects this natural progression.

  • Certain hair follicles can become smaller than others causing them to be less effective for the natural growth cycle.
  • With a follicle that has shrunk in size, the replacement hair which grows in place of a previous one is thinner and less strong due to the smaller follicle which supports it.
  • Due to the smaller follicle – the new hair as well as being thinner and less strong grows for a much shorter time.
  • Owing to these elements the follicle remains under the skin’s surface but only produces a short hair stump which does not have the growing power to break through the scalps surface due to the follicle being smaller with less growth potential.

The hormones within a male can play an important factor in the problem of MPB. With alterations and various growth patterns, hormones and their effectiveness can alter over the course of time – leading to the male ‘testosterone’ hormone and becoming another form of male hormone. Hair follicles are affected greatly by this other form of male hormone and it is this which causes the follicles to reduce in size and strength.

Research has never been able to isolate the exact reason as to why this is more common on the scalp and crown area of the head as opposed to anywhere else on the body. It is very common to see men suffering from MPB but have very strong facial hair growth – indicating that hair follicles are strong within their person and only the follicles upon their scalp and around the hairline area, are proving to be weak in their growth potential.

The Measure of MPB

There is a broad spectrum of the various forms of MPB and how it is measured. Using the ‘Norwood Hamilton Scale’ this scale ranges from NW1 ( meaning no hair loss has taken place ) to NW7 ( meaning complete hair loss ) there is more detail relating to this that can be found on our website.

Prevention of MPB

From the wide variety of the cases we have seen and worked upon the general consensus is that there is no definitive prevention for MPB. SMP is, however, one of the most effective and realistic methods of hiding the fact, by the way it achieves the look of the cropped style – it works with the chosen style and trend making it seem deliberate and a style choice rather than a condition.

The natural step up from this is Hair Transplantation surgery, however, both of these forms of camouflage can’t stop the process of MPB from happening, unfortunately, it is purely a part of human nature.

There are a lot of products on the market which claim to prevent the process from progressing, drug medications that claim they are manufactured in such a way that they are able to block DHT which is a common cause of hair loss – however we strongly disagree with such products and similar courses of action. These types of pills are usually taken after the individual has started losing their hair and there is no guarantee that these drugs have any effect what so ever on the prevention of further hair loss.

Other forms of pill treatment for hair loss contain harmful drugs. They are mostly taken in a reaction to MPB rather than a prior prevention method but overall simply don’t work and there is very little evidence to back up their claims or effectiveness.

Micropigmentation Help

It is important to state right away that various forms of baldness cannot be cured or replaced. The only true solution to the problem is the art of camouflage and this is where SMP comes into play. It can’t be denied that transplantation surgeries, concealing methods and hair systems are not an option open to you, they are and we only encourage what is best for the individual and their own unique situation and circumstances.

Micropigmentation we believe is the way forward giving you a sharp and stylish look and feel for the modern man. More people today are now choosing SMP as a solution over any other form of treatment as the results and process speaks for itself with a growing trend, following and support for it but above all demand for it due to its effectiveness.

The SMP process is able to replicate and recreate numerous hair follicles – this is accomplished by the placement of minute pigment hair deposits into the skin of the scalp, over the course of two to three treatments and consultations which will effectively build up the desired density and thickness of the style you are aiming for. The result is so realistic and convincing no one will think you have lost any hair what so ever and you are more likely to receive compliments towards your new look and style.
